Demerara has a rich rum-making heritage. With the introduction of sugar in the 1640s and distilling in the 1670s, the foundation of Demerara Rum production was established.

By 1780, 300 distilleries producing their own unique rums were spread across the country. Sugar and bulk rum production grew in popularity and saw tremendous success over the years until the introduction of excise taxes which forced them to close or consolidate.

Consolidation happened until the final merger of the remaining sugar estates and transfer of remaining stills and expertise to the Diamond Distillery - home of Diamond Reserve Demerara Rums. Today, Diamond Reserve Demerara Rums are made using stills and expertise from 300 years ago. Every sip of our rums offer a journey through time.
